Garage Door Cable and Track Repair in Calaveras, San Joaquin and Amador Counties
A garage door hanging crooked, a cable dangling loose, or a door that’s jumped off its track all need the same thing: someone who knows how the cables, tracks and rollers work together. These parts carry the door’s weight with the springs, so when one fails, the rest are under strain.
Afford-A-Door Inc. replaces snapped and frayed cables, straightens and replaces bent tracks, puts off-track doors back on their rollers, and replaces worn rollers for homes across Calaveras, San Joaquin and Amador Counties, from our base in Valley Springs. John has 39 years in the trade, and you get a quote before any work starts.

Signs of a Cable, Track or Roller Problem
The door hangs crooked
One side sits lower than the other, or it lifts unevenly.
A cable is loose, frayed or snapped
Or it has come off the drum at the top of the door.
The door is off its track
Rollers have come out of the track and the door is jammed or leaning.
Grinding, scraping or popping
Usually worn rollers or a track that's out of line.
A bent or dented track
Often from a car or a bump. The door binds or stops at that spot.
Rollers that wobble or stick
Worn, cracked or rusty rollers make the door shaky and loud.
See one of these? Stop using the door and call John at (209) 327-8585.
Cables, Tracks and Rollers
Lift Cables
Steel cables run from the bottom of the door to drums above it. With the springs, they raise and lower the door evenly on both sides.
Tracks
The metal tracks on each side guide the door up and over. They have to stay straight, level and tightly fastened to the wall.
Rollers
Rollers run inside the tracks on every section of the door. When they wear out, the door gets loud, shaky and harder to lift.
A problem with one of these usually puts stress on the others, so John checks all three on every visit.
Garage Door Cable and Track Repair
Cable Replacement
Frayed or snapped lift cables are the usual reason a door hangs crooked or drops on one side. We fit new cables, set them evenly on the drums and get the door closing level again.
Cable Off the Drum
When a cable slips off its drum, the door can stick halfway or hang at an angle. We rewind and reset the cable and find out why it came off.
Off-Track Door Repair
We get the rollers back in the tracks, straighten or replace anything that bent, and check the cables and springs before the door runs again.
Bent Track Repair and Replacement
A bumped or loose track throws the door out of line. We straighten minor bends, replace badly damaged sections and fasten the tracks back to the wall.
Garage Door Roller Replacement
Worn, cracked or rusty rollers make the door loud and shaky. New rollers make it quieter and smoother, and take strain off the opener.
Hinges and Brackets
Cracked hinges and loose brackets let the sections shift and the rollers come out of line. We replace them before they cause a bigger problem.

Door Off Its Track or Hanging by a Cable? Stop Using It
Don’t run the opener and don’t try to force the door back into the track. An off-track or crooked door is carrying its weight in the wrong places, and it can fall. Keep people and cars out from under it, and never touch the cables or springs: they’re under a lot of tension. Call John at (209) 327-8585 and he’ll give you the first time he has open.

Garage Door Cable and Track FAQs
Usually a frayed or snapped cable, or a cable that has come off its drum, so one side is lifting and the other isn't. It can also be a broken spring. Stop using the door and call us.
The usual causes are a bump from a car, a broken cable, worn rollers, or a track that's bent or loose. Something in the door's path when it closes can do it too.
We don't recommend it. An off-track door is carrying its weight unevenly and can fall, and the cables and springs are under a lot of tension. Leave it where it is and call us.
Cables wear and rust over time, and a broken spring or a door that's out of balance puts extra strain on them. When we replace a cable, we check the springs and drums too.
The two cables wear at about the same rate, so replacing both often makes sense. John will tell you what your door needs.
It depends on the parts your door needs and today's material prices, which keep changing. John looks at the door and gives you a quote before any work starts.
John books every job by appointment. Call him at (209) 327-8585 and he'll give you the first time he has open. Until then, leave the door where it is and don't run the opener.
